25 before 25: #13 – Get a ‘grown-up’ job

#13 – Get a ‘grown-up’ job

Today I had my first day at my new job. For the last few months since I left my job I’ve been lifeguarding. I’m not trying to say that this is a lesser job, but I now contribute to a pension scheme, and wore a nice blouse – that’s the kind of thing I mean when I saw ‘grown-up’.

I also got stabbed with a needle on my coffee break. It was the flu jab. Perks of working for the NHS, I guess!?

Just in case anyone was wondering, my official title is ‘Child Health Team Assistant’.

Day 101: Letting people down

Letting people down is my least favourite thing, in the world.

It’s not just that you know that you disappointed them, its also that you have to deal with your own pride: that you can’t do everything and sometimes you’re just not able.

This week, i’ve cancelled a shift at work on their busiest day of the year and had to bail on an event that I had planned with my friends weeks ago, all because I confused my weeks and have too many deadlines on Friday. I’m not superwoman, and truthfully, often I wish I were.

Day 92: Work, work, work

That is exactly what i’ve done the last three nights. The upside and downside to my job is that it is somewhat temperamental. This is good because if I have a lot of uni work I don’t have a set contract of hours, so I don’t have to work, but often there isn’t work when you need it.

Another major downside is waste. I hate walking home from work seeing all the homeless people with no shelter or food, knowing that I’ve just thrown away steak and prawns and champagne, and there’s nothing I can do about it. It sucks.
